Emergenetics® Profiles

Emergenetics® Profiles

A scientifically validated psychometric assessment to develop greater self-awareness for enhanced team performance.

The Emergenetics® Profile:

The Emergenetics® Profile is a scientifically developed psychometric assessment that maps how you prefer to think and how you prefer to behave, across seven attributes. Completing your Profile gives you clear, everyday language for the strengths you already bring to work: how you take in information, reach decisions, and connect with the people around you.

When team members don’t understand how differently they’re wired, collaboration becomes harder than it needs to be. Assumptions are made. Meetings frustrate more than they resolve. Good ideas get lost because they’re presented in the wrong way to the wrong people.

Emergenetics brings together emerge and genetics; a reminder that who you are has grown from both your inherited wiring and your lived experience.

Drawing on research with thousands of people, organisational psychologist Tasha Eurich found that people who see themselves clearly tend to be more confident and creative, make sounder decisions, build stronger relationships, and communicate more effectively.

The same research shows how much room most of us have to grow: around 95% of people believe they are self-aware, while roughly 10–15% genuinely are.

The Seven Emergenetics® Attributes:

Three behavioural attributes:

Expressiveness

Assertiveness

Pace and directness in communication

Flexibility

Openness to new ideas or change of position

Self-Awareness as an Asset

When colleagues understand their own preferences and can recognise those of others, they gain a shared vocabulary that makes collaboration smoother and everyday misunderstandings quicker to resolve.

This feeds directly into performance. Harvard Business Review research by Alison Reynolds and David Lewis found that teams with greater cognitive diversity — differences in perspective and information-processing style — solved complex problems faster, while teams whose members all thought in similar ways sometimes struggled to finish at all.

A peer-reviewed study of cognitive-style diversity likewise links a mix of thinking styles to stronger team learning over time. Eurich’s work adds the leadership dimension: leaders who see themselves clearly tend to run teams with more satisfied employees and are associated with more profitable organisations.

Emergenetics gives an organisation a practical way to see and use the diversity of thought it already employs.

What to expect from an Emergenetics Profile

The profile is based on completion of an online questionnaire. They then receive a personalised Profile report with a consistent structure. Here’s what’s in it.

The Thinking pie chart. A single circle split into four colours — Blue (Analytical), Green (Structural), Red (Social) and Yellow (Conceptual). It’s derived from your percentile scores and shows the percentage mix of where you prefer to put your mental energy, so the four slices add up to 100%. Anything above 23% is read as a genuine preference.

The Thinking bar charts. Four coloured bars, one per Thinking Attribute, shown as percentiles so you can see at a glance how strongly you lean into Analytical, Structural, Social and Conceptual thinking, and how that compares with the wider population.

The Behavioural bar charts. Shown in shades of purple for the three Behavioural Attributes: Expressiveness, Assertiveness and Flexibility. Each sits on a spectrum expressed as a percentile, and each spectrum is divided into thirds — first-third (0–33%), second-third (34–66%) and third-third (67–100%) — which describe how much of the time you’re comfortable operating in that mode.

Written interpretation. Alongside the graphics, the report carries narrative text describing how you approach problem-solving, conflict and group settings, along with ideal environments and communication styles.

Emergenetics+ access. After the assessment, participants get access to the on-demand Emergenetics+ portal and mobile app, where they can get tailored communication strategies for working with colleagues, build team groups for shared insights, and use guides that apply their preferences to everyday work.

VALIDITY OF EMERGENETICS PROFILE METHODOLOGY

The Emergenetics Profile assesment is built to be trusted. Its publisher re-norms the assessment against a global population every two years and publishes a full Technical Report setting out its validity and reliability. It has also been examined in independent published research — for example, a study in the Journal on Excellence in College Teaching describes using the Emergenetics Profile to support learning and development.

In our hands, the Profile is where the work begins. Delivered by a Certified Emergenetics Associate and paired with facilitation and coaching, it turns a set of insights into habits people genuinely use, from how they run meetings, offer feedback, and get the best from one another.

“[As a result of this programme,] I am more mindful of how my choice of words and tone in a group setting can influence the work and attitude of other members of the group. In this way, I intend to use this to promote constructive teamwork in my group projects so that every member feels empowered to make significant contributions”

Pride in Leadership

“[The profile] helped me reflect on my own natural preferences and also on the importance of flexing my style to communicate more effectively with others.

I also found the idea behind the Platinum Rule very valuable, since it shifts leadership away from assuming others work like we do and towards understanding people on their own terms.”
